Canon Printer Setup & Installation Guide
Canon PIXMA and MAXIFY printers are a fantastic choice for home and small office environments. Canon provides several easy ways to connect your new hardware to your wireless network. Follow this guide to effortlessly link your Canon printer.
Method 1: Utilizing the Canon PRINT App
The simplest method to establish a connection for a brand new Canon printer uses the free Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app available for smartphones and tablets.
- Step 1: Prepare the printer. Plug it in, turn it on, and install the provided cartridges. Ensure the printer displays "Ready" or initiates its setup process.
- Step 2: Download and install the Canon PRINT app from your mobile device's app store.
- Step 3: Ensure your smartphone is linked to your target primary Wi-Fi network and Bluetooth is switched on.
- Step 4: Open the Canon PRINT app and tap the "+" icon or "Add Printer." The app will scan for your Canon printer over Bluetooth or a direct Wi-Fi setup connection.
- Step 5: Select your new printer, input your local Wi-Fi password when prompted by the app, and allow the software to connect the printer securely.
Method 2: Direct LCD Screen Setup
If your Canon PIXMA or MAXIFY features a built-in touchscreen or a large LCD display, you can skip the app entirely.
- Step 1: On your Canon printer, tap the Setup icon (this often looks like tools or a gear).
- Step 2: Navigate to and select Device settings, followed by LAN settings, and finally Wireless LAN setup.
- Step 3: Pick Standard setup. The printer will scan for active networks in your surrounding area.
- Step 4: Choose your router's name (SSID) from the list that appears and input your Wi-Fi password using the on-screen keypad. Tap OK.
Method 3: "Cableless Setup" or WPS Method
If your router has a WPS button, try this fast-track method:
- Step 1: Search for the router's WPS button and hold it for approximately 3-5 seconds until the light pulses.
- Step 2: Within two minutes, locate the Wi-Fi button on your Canon printer and hold it down until the power or Wi-Fi alarm light flashes once. Alternatively, select 'WPS (Push button)' in the Wi-Fi setup menu on the screen.
- Step 3: The printer will finalize the connection by lighting up the Wi-Fi icon solidly.
Final Check
Once your Canon is comfortably resting on your Wi-Fi network, navigate to your computer. On Windows, use Printers & Scanners > Add a printer. On Mac, go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners > Add Printer. The Canon will show up, ready to install and output its first test page!
